Public Talk on Recent Progress on Passive and Low Energy Cooling of Buildings

A Public Talk on Recent Progress on Passive and Low Energy Cooling of Buildings was held on 22 February 2006 at National University of Singapore. The talk was organized by the Energy Sustainability Unit (ESU) through the EC-ASEAN Energy Facility Programme, with the support of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) in Jakarta.

This talk focusing on the recent developments in the area of passive and low energy cooling for buildings was presented by Professor Mattheos Santamouris, an eminent building scientist from the University of Athens, Greece. The state of the art and the recent advancements on heat protection, amortization and dissipation techniques for buildings was presented.

 


The urban heat island effect, impact of the urban environment on the summer energy performance of buildings, as well as new technologies for the urban environment like cool materials was also highlighted.

The talk was attended by around 120 participants from both public and private agencies. The participants included professionals from the construction and manufacturing industries and academics from local tertiary institutions.
